My holiday snaps

The door handle, with close up, on the house/chateau of our friends. I fascinated at the use of the pergrino style shell. This area is close to one of the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostella.

The scallop shell is said to be a metaphor, its lines representing the different routes pilgrims travel from all over the world, all walking trails leading to one point: the tomb of Saint James in Santiago de Compostela. However, it is open to interpretation. Which side points to Santiago?
In some regions, the scallop’s longest line is considered the one pointing towards Santiago. This is the case in Asturias, for example if you are walking the Camino Primitivo or the Camino del Norte, and some parts of the Camino Portugues
Chad: The scallop she’ll was also used to drink from and collect oats on route, which were donated. When the grave of St James was unearthed it was said to be covered in scallop shells.

In my rare moment of internet-on excitement, I thought it was one image I was looking at but now I see two. All rather more fancy than the lock on my uPVC door frame.
Chad: The uPVC manufacturers have little style.
The scallop shell is used in design quite often, from furniture decoration to women's make-up.
Chad: An interesting point Mary.
i like both points of view Chad... i have learned quite a bit today about the use of scallop shells and their from the comments and your replies....petersmile
Chad: Thanks Peter. Ever since walking the Camino to Santiago in Spain, where the shell is the symbol, I keep spotting them.
